Vol. 324 No. 2

Written Answers. - Home Improvement Grants.

345.

asked the Minister for the Environment when a solid fuel heating grant will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

The grant was paid on 18 August 1980.

346.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason for the delay in the payment of a reconstruction grant to a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

There has been no delay in processing this case.

Grants for reconstruction and sewerage works allocated by my Department in November 1978 were cancelled as the applicant decided to seek a disabled person's grant for the same works from his local authority; this would have been more advantageous to him. Following notification that the application for a disabled person's grant had been rejected by the local authority, the earlier application to my Department was reactivated. A final inspection has revealed that work has been satisfactorily completed and arrangements are being made for payment of the grants.

asked the Minister for the Environment when a home improvement grant will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

The grant in this case will be paid as soon as possible.

348.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason for the delay in paying a solid fuel grant to a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

A grant to reduce dependence on oil cannot be made available in this case as the applicant already had a solid fuel appliance which provided a domestic hot water supply, prior to the commencement of the works specified in the application.

349.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason for the delay in dealing with the application of a person (details supplied) in County Galway for a solid fuel grant and a home improvement grant; and the reason his Department did not reply to correspondence from this individual.

There has been no undue delay in dealing with these applications.

A grant to reduce dependence on oil was paid on 25 September 1980. Following a letter from the applicant on 29 September 1980, the house improvement grant file was issued for final inspection, with a view to the payment of a grant, if in order. As the file is not available in the Department, I cannot say what the position is regarding any correspondence other than the letter of 29 September. The normal procedure on receipt of a letter notifying completion of work is to refer the file for inspection.

House improvement and water-sewerage grants will be paid to this applicant as soon as possible.
