Vol. 324 No. 2

Written Answers. - Home Improvement Grants.

354.

asked the Minister for the Environment when a home improvement grant and a water and sewage grant will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

367.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason for the delay in the payment of a reconstruction grant to a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 354 and 367 together.

There has been no undue delay in this case. Grants for reconstruction works and water and sewerage installations will be paid when an inspection confirms that the works being undertaken are eligible for grant and have been satisfactorily completed. The inspection will be carried out as soon as possible.

355.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason for the delay in the payment of a solid fuel grant to a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

A special grant to reduce dependence on oil cannot be paid in this case as the application form was not received in my Department on or before 1 February 1980, which was the latest date for receipt of such applications.

356.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware that applicants for home improvement grants and solid fuel grants, who failed to notify his Department that work was completed before 1 October 1980 may not qualify for a grant although the work was completed, and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am not so aware. The position is that the original deadline of 1 October 1980 for the completion of works and claiming payment of grants has been extended to 31 March 1981. The extension was announced on 15 August last in an advertisement in the national daily newspapers and in a press release issued on behalf of my Department.
