Vol. 324 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Payment of Pensions.

19.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason for the delay in the payment of arrears of retirement pension to a person (details supplied) in County Tipperary.

The person concerned was awarded a retirement pension with effect from 7 June 1979 and a pension order book was issued payable from 12 June 1980. The arrears for the period 7 June 1979 to 11 June 1980 amounted to £1,006.85.

He was also awarded a British retirement pension from 7 June 1979 and the arrears of this pension for the period 7 June 1979 to 9 April 1980 amounted to IR £798.18.

The total British and Irish arrears due to him, therefore, amounted to £1,805.03. However, as he had received a total of £915.40 by way of old age (blind) pension for the period 7 June 1979 to 12 June 1980 he was only entitled to the balance of £889.63.

A payable order for the amount due was issued to him on 20 October 1980.

20.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason for the delay in the payment of arrears of a contributory old age pension to a person (details supplied) in County Tipperary.

The person concerned claimed a contributory old age pension on 8 May 1980 and was awarded pension with effect from 8 February 1980. As he had been paid disability benefit to which he was not entitled in respect of an earlier period, the arrears of pension were withheld pending determination of the amount of the overpayment.

A payable order in respect of the arrears of pension due, less the amount he received by way of overpayment of disability benefit, was issued to him on 20 October 1980.
