Vol. 324 No. 7

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Telephone Service.

31.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the reason for the delay in providing a telephone service for a person (details supplied) in County Galway; and when it is expected that the service will be provided.

Service to the address given is dependent on the opening of a new exchange and on the carrying out of cabling work in the area. It is unlikely that service can be provided for at least a year.

32.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the number of applicants awaiting telephone service in Kilnamanagh Estate, Tallaght, County Dublin; and when service will be provided.

33.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the number of applicants awaiting telephone service in Belgard Heights Estate, Tallaght, County Dublin; and when service will be provided.

34.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the number of applicants awaiting telephone service in Kingswood Heights Estate, Tallaght, County Dublin; and when service will be provided.

35.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the number of applicants awaiting telephone service in Aylesbury Estate, Tallaght, County Dublin; and when service will be provided.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 32, 33, 34, and 35 together.

The numbers of applicants awaiting telephone service in the areas mentioned are approximately as follows:— Kilnamanagh Estate, Tallaght, 500; Belgard Heights, Tallaght, 120; Kingswood Heights, Tallaght, 400; Aylesbury Estate, Tallaght, 220.

It is expected that service will be provided for all of those by the end of this year or early next year.

36.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware that five people (details supplied) in County Sligo paid his Department money in June 1980 to have telephones installed, that his Department had the use of that money since then, and that as yet telephones have not been installed; if he will have telephones installed immediately; and why the telephones were not installed inside the normal three months of payment having been made.

At the time these applicants signed agreements and made advance payments it was expected that service could be provided within about three months. The non-availability of some cable, however, delayed the provision of service. The cable is now available and service will be provided shortly.
