Vol. 324 No. 8

Written Answers. - Galway Docks' Fire Protection.

84.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware of a fire protection report on the Galway Docks' area commissioned by Galway County Council and of the resolution passed by the county council in relation to that report which was sent to his Department; and the action he proposes to take in relation to the report.

A copy of this report was submitted recently to my Department by Galway County Council and is being examined. A copy of the resolution mentioned has not been received.

The report contains 20 recommendations concerning various aspects of fire protection in the docks area, with particular reference to the storage and handling of petroleum. While it is primarily a matter for Galway County Council, who commissioned the report, to decide what action should be taken on recommendations relevant to their functions, the report also has implications for a number of other bodies and has been brought to the notice of the Departments of Labour and Transport.
