Vol. 324 No. 8

Written Answers. - Water Schemes.

94.

asked the Minister for the Environment if an application has been received for a group water scheme at Coshla, Athenry, County Galway; and the present position in relation to the scheme.

There are no proposals in my Department for a group water scheme at Coshla, Athenry.

However, a group water scheme at Coshla catering for 15 householders was completed in December 1978. State grants amounting to £6,700 were paid in respect of this scheme.

asked the Minister for the Environment when he will be in a position to grant a sufficient capital allocation to Donegal County Council under sanitary services to undertake work on the east Innishowen regional water scheme, having regard to the fact that lack of a water supply is seriously inhibiting development in the area.

The local authority's proposals for this scheme must be considered in the context of the amount of capital available for the overall water and sewerage programme, the number of schemes in progress or getting to construction at the present time in Donegal and elsewhere throughout the country, and the need to conserve capital for schemes of the highest priority. I am not at present in a position to say when approval will issue to the contract documents for this scheme. The question of finance will not arise until the scheme has been fully approved.
