Vol. 324 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Tipperary Sewerage Schemes.

46.

asked the Minister for the Environment the up-to-date position concerning the urgent need to implement the much needed sewerage scheme at Dundrum, County Tipperary; if he will provide the necessary money to enable the scheme to commence without any further delay; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Contract documents for the Dundrum sewerage scheme are under consideration in my Department. This scheme must be considered in the context of the amount of capital available for water and sewerage schemes and the number of schemes in progress, or getting to construction, and for which adequate finance must be provided. I am not in a position to say when a decision thereon will issue to the local authority.

(Cavan-Monaghan): Would the Minister tell us when these documents were received in his Department?

In 1977.

(Cavan-Monaghan): Surely the Minister and his Government have done nothing since they came into office? Not a move on them.

If the Deputy wishes to put down a question I shall be only too happy to tell him what we have done in the various counties.

(Cavan-Monaghan): The Department have issued circulars to the county council.

47.

asked the Minister for the Environment the up-to-date position concerning the urgent need to provide a sewerage scheme at Emly, County Tipperary; if he will give approval to the local authority to enable the scheme to commence without delay; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Preliminary proposals for the Emly sewerage scheme are under consideration in my Department. Having regard to the need to conserve the capital available for water and sewerage schemes of the highest priority, I cannot say when I will be in a position to convey a decision to the local authority on this scheme.

(Cavan-Monaghan): Could the Minister tell the House when the documents involved arrived?

In 1977.

(Cavan-Monaghan): There you are, not a thing.
