Vol. 325 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Greece Trade Union Freedom.

24.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs whether he is satisfied with the position regarding freedom of trade union activity in Greece, particularly in the light of its imminent accession to the European Communities.

Trade union activity in Greece is essentially a matter for the Greek Government and people in accordance with their constitution and laws. In common with other members of the International Labour Organisation, Greece is aware of the requirements and standards that are internationally recognised for the protection of trade union rights. In my view the forthcoming Greek membership of the European Community can only have constructive and beneficial effects in this as in other fields.
