Vol. 325 No. 4

Written Answers. - Factory Closures.

49.

asked the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Tourism the number of manufacuring businesses which have ceased production since January 1980; and the names of such businesses and their location.

There is no obligation on manufacturing businesses to notify my Department when they cease production. The information at my disposal relates only to manufacturing firms the closing down of which since 1 January 1980 came to the notice of the Industrial Development Authority or of the Department.

In the period 1 January-30 November 1980 a total of 65 firms have come to notice as having ceased production. Information on these firms, in the form requested by the Deputy, is contained in a tabular statement which, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to circulate with the Official Report.

This report does not include firms in which production was resumed following the conclusion of arrangements for a take-over or cases where only part of the business has closed.

List of Manufacturing Businesses which ceased production since 1 January 1980.
