asked the Minister for Education (a) the long term plans he has for the development of education at all levels at Shannon, County Clare; (b) if he will provide a new post-primary school there in line with local wishes as an alternative to extending the present school; and when the additional accommodation will be provided.

Primary

It is proposed to provide additional primary school facilities in Shannon, Co. Clare as follows:—

(1) Saint Senan's N.S.—It is proposed to build an extension comprising four permanent classrooms.

(2) St. John's Church of Ireland N.S.—An extension comprising one permanent classroom and a general purpose room is proposed.

(3) St. Tola's N.S.—It is proposed to erect an extension comprising four permanent classrooms.

(4) Proposed new school — A proposal to build a new sixteen classroom school is under consideration.

Post-primary

It is intended to provide additional post-primary school accommodation in Shannon. The manner in which the accommodation will be provided is under consideration at present and consultations are taking place with local interests in this regard. It is not possible at this early stage to say when the additional accommodation will be provided.
