Vol. 325 No. 4

Written Answers. - Rush (Dublin) Secondary School.

359.

asked the Minister for Education whether his Department has ordered cutbacks in the plans for an extension to the Order of Mercy secondary school at Rush, County Dublin; whether he will agree to the lowest tender so that the building can commence; and if the building will be ready for use on the date originally envisaged.

The contractor who submitted the lowest tender for this project indicated that he would be unable to undertake construction work until March 1982. Therefore, his tender was rejected and the next lowest was examined. As the second lowest tender was significantly above the cost limit for the project, the school's consultants were requested to evaluate possible areas of cost savings. When their proposals are received, a meeting will be held with the school authorities and consultants to resolve any outstanding problems and permit construction work to proceed.

A specific date for the completion of the building has not ben envisaged. Should building work be proceeded with early in 1981, it is anticipated that the extension of the premises would be ready for occupation by September 1982.
