Vol. 325 No. 5

Written Answers. - Redundancy Payments.

360.

asked the Minister for Labour whether further weekly redundancy payments will be made to a person (details supplied) in Dublin; and, if not, why.

Section 8 of the Redundancy Payments Act, 1979, which came into effect on 6 April 1979 abolished redundancy weekly payments except for persons receiving them on that date. It appears that the person in question was not in the excepted category.

Representations have been made to me that the operation of the redundancy payments scheme, as revised by the 1979 Act, has produced anomalies in relation to eligibility for weekly payments which should be remedied. The matter is being reviewed by my Department but the issues raised are very complex and could not be dealt with without amending legislation. The case referred to by the Deputy will be further considered in the context of the review which my Department are undertaking.
