Vol. 325 No. 5

Written Answers. - Child Medical Operations.

363.

asked the Minister for Health if he is aware that a patient (details supplied) has been unable to obtain in writing from a physician at a Dublin hospital (details supplied) the reason why certain medical operations were undertaken without the full and formal knowledge and consent of the parents of the child; and if he will indicate (1) if this is in accordance with the operations and regulations governing the practice of such hospitals and (2) if it is possible for such an explanation in writing to be obtained.

This is primarily a matter between the parents of the child and the consultant concerned. I understand the hospital authorities have the matter under consideration in conjunction with recent written representation received by the hospital on behalf of the child's mother.
