Vol. 325 No. 8

Written Answers. - Personal Reference Form.

217.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if, in relation to the personal reference form MP235 which is sent to public representatives and others concerning references sought by his Department in respect of persons to be employed by his Department, he will state the information it is hoped to elicit by asking whether the applicant's parents, if alive, are respectable; if he is prepared to dispence with this inquiry in the reference form; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The question is applicable to juveniles only and its purpose is to enable my Department to make some assessment of a juvenile's background and home circumstances as part of the general assessment of his suitability for post office employment.

The form is due to be revised in the very near future and I intend to have the wording of the question reviewed then.
