Vol. 326 No. 8

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Redundancies and Job Losses.

32.

asked the Minister for Labour the estimated number of redundancies in Dublin city and county over the last 12 months.

The number of redundancies notified to my Department as qualified under the Redundancy Payments Acts in Dublin city and county over the 12 months ending 31 December 1980 was 6,920.

33.

asked the Minister for Labour the estimated total number of job losses in 1980.

The requirement to notify job losses is confined to situations where the Redundancy Payments Acts and the Protection of Employment Act apply. Official information on job losses is, therefore, incomplete. One sector where reliable information on job losses is compiled, however, is manufacturing industry, and I expect figures on the net job situation in that sector for 1980 to be available in about two months' time.

The remaining questions will appear on tomorrow's Order Paper.

Could I ask your permission, Sir, to raise the subject matter of Question No. 15 on the Adjournment?

I will communicate with the Deputy.
