Vol. 326 No. 8

Written Answers. - North Clare Industries.

161.

asked the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Tourism if there has been any development in the provision of small industries for north Clare; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am informed by the Shannon Free Airport Development Company Ltd. that in the period since mid 1978, when this small industry role commenced, 14 small indigenous industrial projects with a job potential of 140 have been approved in the north Clare area. In the same period, SFADCo have provided or are in the course of constructing six factory units totalling 38,000 sq. ft. for small industry. In addition, the company are seeking to acquire additional land in the area for factory construction.

As north Clare does not have a strong industrial tradition, SFADCo established a special task force, which works closely with local groups, to promote and develop suitable projects in the area. It is expected that a number of worthwhile projects will emerge from this new initiative.
