Vol. 327 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Carnaross (Meath) National School.

28.

asked the Minister for Education (a) when he received an application for the necessary finance to build an extension to Carnaross national school, County Meath; (b) when the money was sanctioned; and (c) when it is expected that work will commence.

A major improvement scheme was carried out at Carnaross national school, County Meath in 1956-57. An improvement scheme to the playgrounds was completed in 1976. An inspector's report of 25 October 1977 recommended an extension to the school. The Department of Education asked the Commissioners of Public Works to report on the feasibility of the extension. The commissioners reported that the extension could be accommodated on the present site. A grant was sanctioned on 18 August 1980. Working drawings are to be prepared shortly for the project.

What has happened since the grant was sanctioned in August 1980? There seems to be quite a gap between that and the preparation of the working drawings now?

The working drawings are now ready and I do not expect there will be any delays. I pass there regularly and I want to see a nice school as I pass.

The Minister needs to go by Oldcastle.

The remaining questions will appear on tomorrow's Order Paper.
