Vol. 327 No. 3

Written Answers. - Ballyfermot (Dublin) Schools.

228.

asked the Minister for Education if, with reference to the Dominican primary schools. Ballyfermot, he has now received a report from his officials regarding the financial difficulties of the schools; if, as a result of the report, he is now in a position to offer financial assistance to the schools; if he will give the up-to-date position regarding the schools; if he has been invited to the public meeting in the school on Wednesday, 4 March; and if he will attend.

I have received the report referred to in the question and it is under consideration in my Department.

I intend that discussions should take place between officials of my Department and representatives of the school authorities in relation to the financial circumstances of the school. I have received an invitation to the meeting mentioned by the Deputy. It would not be in accordance with established practice that the Minister for Education would discuss the circumstances of an individual school other than on a confidential basis with the authorities of the school concerned. I do not, accordingly, propose to attend the meeting.
