Vol. 327 No. 9

Ceisteanna-Questions. Oral Answers. - Telephone Service.

12.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when his Department propose to automate the Peterswell and Tubber telephone exchanges, County Galway.

13.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when all telephone subscribers in the Peterswell area of County Galway will be provided with a night telephone service.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle I propose to take Questions Nos. 12 and 13 together.

It is hoped to provide automatic telephone service at both Peterswell and Tubber about the end of this year. There is a technical limit to the number of subscribers who can be given night service at Peterswell exchange at present and it will not be possible to increase that limit before the exchange is converted to automatic, when all subscribers will have continuous telephone service.

14.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a person (details supplied) in County Galway will be provided with a telephone extension.

In about six months' time.

That is not too bad. When was the application made for that extension?

I do not have that information.

It is so long ago it would embarrass the Minister of State.

I am only one year in the job.
