Vol. 327 No. 9

Written Answers. - County Galway School Staffing.

236.

asked the Minister for Education if he will sanction the appointment of additional teachers at (i) Newtown national school, Moycullen and (ii) St. Nicholas national school, Claddagh, County Galway.

(i) The former Newtown national school was amalgamated in Moycullen central school in September 1978. The average enrolment at Moycullen central school at present does not warrant the appointment of an additional teacher.

(ii) St. Nicholas national school, The Claddagh, would require an average enrolment of 225 pupils for the periods specified in the Rules for National Schools to qualify for the appointment of an additional teacher (6th assistant) on the staff. As this requirement has not been fulfilled the reverend chairman of the board of management has been informed that such an appointment could not be sanctioned at present.
