Vol. 327 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Office Accommodation Rents.

16.

asked the Minister for Transport the total annual rent paid by his Department and each semi-State body under the aegis of his Department in the city of Dublin for office accommodation; the rent per square foot for each office per annum; the length of time to the next rent review; and the property company or landlord to whom the rent is paid.

The Department of Transport do not rent office accommodation in the city of Dublin. The leasing of property by State-sponsored bodies under the aegis of the Department is a matter falling within the responsibility of each of the bodies concerned. The information requested by the Deputy in relation to these bodies is not available in my Department.

I have already asked the Taoiseach about this. I am simply trying to elicit information with conspicuous failure to date. Could I ask the Minister if his Department are in a position to ask the semi-State bodies under his aegis for the information that I request directly from him and if he is prepared to do so?

I am quite sure it is possible for the Minister to request any information from semi-State bodies.

In view of the fact that this is the second time I have asked this set of questions to all of the Government Departments, of which this Department is the first, why did the Minister not see fit to ask for this information from the semi-State bodies involved? Would he now obtain the information for me or do I need to put down another written question?

The leasing for accommodation for the Department of Transport is a matter for the Office of Public Works. Perhaps the Deputy would re-direct his question to that Department.
