asked the Minister for the Environment if he will change the regulations which disqualify tenants of county council cottages who have signed a tenancy agreement from purchasing their home under the low rise mortgage scheme and amend the regulations in such a way that would allow tenants to do so or give them the option of purchasing under the housing loans scheme.

A person who has signed a tenancy agreement in respect of a local authority house may purchase the house under the tenant purchase scheme, which provides generous financial concessions to such persons. It is not proposed to amend the regulations as requested by the Deputy to allow such persons to purchase their houses under any other house purchase scheme.
