asked the Minister for Social Welfare the total annual rent paid by his Department and each semi-State body under the aegis of his Department in the city of Dublin for office accommodation; the rent per square foot for each office per annum; the length of time to the next rent review; and the property company or landlord to whom the rent is paid.

With the exception of premises at 7/8 Charlemont Street, Dublin 2, my Department do not rent office accommodation in the city of Dublin. The total rent paid annually in respect of those premises is £9,000; the rent per square foot is £1.29; a rent review, which fell due on 1 October 1980, is currently being undertaken and the Raglan Group, Leeson Court, 86/88 Lower Leeson Street, Dublin 2, is the landlord to whom rent is paid.

There is no semi-State body under the aegis of my Department.

311.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry the total annual rent paid by his Department and each semi-State body under the aegis of his Department in the city of Dublin for office accommodation; the rent per square foot for each office per annum; the length of time to the next rent review; and the property company or landlord to whom the rent is paid.

My Department do not rent office accommodation. The information sought by the Deputy in regard to semi-State bodies is as follows:

An Bord Iascaigh Mhara

1. The total annual rent paid in the city of Dublin for office accommodation : £140,596.

2. The rent per square foot for each office per annum : (a) £7.76; (b) £6.66; and (c) £6.30 per sq. ft.

3. The length of time to the next rent review : (a) 14 years from February 1980; (b) 7 years from February 1980; (c) 7 years from June 1980.

4. The property company to whom the rent is paid: (a) and (b) Irish Estates Management Ltd; (c) Burmah Castrol Ltd.

313.

asked the Minister for Post and Telegraphs the total annual rent paid by his Department and each semi-State body under the aegis of his Department in the city of Dublin for office accommodation; the rent per square foot for each office per annum; the length of time to the next rent review; and the property company or landlord to whom the rent is paid.

Radio Telefís Éireann is the only semi-State body under the aegis of my Department. The information sought in regard to that body is a matter for the Radio Telefís Éireann Authority and I have no function in the matter. The total rent being paid by my Department for office accommodation in the city of Dublin is £1,205,961 per annum.

The rest of the information sought by the Deputy is not readily available and a disproportionate expenditure of time and money, which would not be warranted, would be involved in compiling it, apart from the fact that it would be contrary to practice to disclose information regarding rents being paid for individual premises.

315.

asked the Taoiseach if his Department or any semi-State body under the aegis of his Department own or lease property between the canals in Dublin city; and, if so, if he will indicate in respect of each property (1) the acreage, (2) the approximate location, (3) the date of purchase, if owned, and (4) the annual leasehold rent.

My Department do not own or lease property. The purchase or lease of property by the State-sponsored bodies under the aegis of my Department is a matter for the day-to-day administration of the bodies concerned and is not a matter for which I have statutory responsibility.

316.

asked the Minister for Energy if his Department or any semi-State body under the aegis of his Department own or lease property between the canals in Dublin city; and, if so, if he will indicate in respect of each property (1) the acreage, (2) the approximate location, (3) the date of purchase, if owned, and (4) the annual leashold rent.

My Department do not own or lease any property in the Dublin area. In the case of the State bodies under the aegis of my Department who have property in the Dublin area, the acquisition of such property — either on a purchase or lease basis — is (with the exception of the Irish National Petroleum Corporation) primarily a matter for the day-to-day administration of the bodies concerned and an area in which I have no function. The Irish National Petroleum Corporation are, under their Articles of Association, required to obtain my consent for the leasing of office property. The corporation have offices on lease in Harcourt Street (3610 sq. ft.). However, it is not the practice to disclose individual rents which are confidential as between the lessor and lessee.

317.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if his Department or any semi-State body under the aegis of his Department own or lease property between the canals in Dublin city, and, if so if he will indicate in respect of each property (1) the acreage, (2) the approximate location, (3) the date of purchase, if owned, and (4) the annual leasehold rent.

Office accommodation occupied by my Department is provided by the Office of Public Works. The information sought by the Deputy in regard to bodies under the aegis of my Department is a matter for them and I have no function in the matter.

318.

asked the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Tourism if his Department or any semi-State body under the aegis of his Department own or lease property between the canals in Dublin city; and, if so, if he will indicate in respect of each property (1) the acreage, (2) the approximate location, (3) the date of purchase, if owned, and (4) the annual leashold rent.

My Department do not own or lease property. The provision of accommodation for my Department is a matter for the Office of Public Works. The ownership or leasing of property by semi-State bodies is a matter of day-to-day administration for the bodies themselves and one in which I have no function.

319.

asked the Minister for Justice if his Department or any semi-State body under the aegis of his Department own or lease property between the canals in Dublin city; and, if so, if he will indicate in respect of each property (1) the acreage, (2) the approximate location, (3) the date of purchase, if owned. and (4) the annual leasehold rent.

Details of property owned or leased by my Department in the area referred to in the question are as follows;

The only property in respect of which rent is paid is the Social Aid Centre. It is not the practice to disclose the amount of commercial rents payable in respect of individual properties.

As indicated on 12 November, 1980 in reply to a parliamentary question by the Deputy, (Official Report, Volume 324, Column 243), the arrangements for office accommodation of any semi-State body or State agency under the aegis of my Department is a matter of day-to-day administration for those bodies.

320.

asked the Minister for Defence if his Department or any semi-State body under the aegis of his Department own or lease property between the canals in Dublin city; and, if so, if he will indicate in respect of each property (1) the acreage, (2) the approximate location, (3) the date of purchase, if owned, and (4) the annual leasehold rent.

The title to all of these properties is vested in the Minister for Finance. Occupation by the State dates from 1922. Particulars of leasehold rents payable are being compiled by the Minister for Finance and will be communicated by him to the Deputy.

321.

asked the Minister for Finance if his Department or any semi-State body under the aegis of his Department own or lease property between the canals in Dublin city; and, if so, if he will indicate in respect of each property (1) the acreage, (2) the approximate location, (3) the date of purchase, if owned, and (4) the annual leasehold rent.

No property is owned or leased by my Department, Stationery Office. Valuation and Ordnance Survey Office or the State Laboratory. The Office of Public Works, being the main provider of office accommodation for Government Departments generally, owns and leases substantial amounts of property between the canals in Dublin city. The information sought by the Deputy therefore requires considerable research and cannot be furnished in the time available for reply. If the Deputy repeats the question in about two weeks I shall be glad to deal with it.

The information sought by the Deputy in regard to semi-State bodies is a matter for them and one in which I have no function.

322.

asked the Minister for the Public Service if his Department or any semi-state body under the aegis of his Department own or lease property between the canals in Dublin city; and, if so, if he will indicate in respect of each property (1) the acreage, (2) the approximate location, (3) the date of purchase, if owned, and (4) the annual leasehold rent.

Neither my Department nor the Civil Service Commission own or lease property.

323.

asked the Minister for Education if his Department or any semi-State body under the aegis of his Department own or lease property between the canals in Dublin city; and, if so, if he will indicate in respect of each property (1) the acreage (2) the approximate location, (3) the date of purchase, if owned, and (4) the annual leasehold rent.

There are no semi-State bodies as envisaged in the question under the aegis of my Department.

324.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if his Department or any semi-State body under the aegis of his Department own or lease property between the canals in Dublin city; and, if so, if he will indicate in respect of each property (1) the acreage, (2) the approximate location, (3) the date of purchase, if owned, and (4) the annual leasehold rent.

My Department do not own or lease any property between the canals in Dublin city. The purchase or leasing of property by semi-State bodies are matters for the bodies concerned.

325.

asked the Minister for the Gaeltacht if her Department or any semi-State body under the aegis of her Department own or lease property between the canals in Dublin city; and, if so, if she will indicate in respect of each property (1) the acreage, (2) the approximate location, (3) the date of purchase, if owned, and (4) the annual leasehold rent.

326.

asked the Minister for Health if his Department or any semi-State body under the aegis of his Department own or lease property between the canals in Dublin city; and, if so, if he will indicate in respect of each property (1) the acreage, (2) the approximate location, (3) the date of purchase, if owned, and (4) the annual leasehold rent.

I assume the Deputy's question refers to building land. There are 54 acres of land at Cabra off the Navan Road vested in the Minister. It was purchased between 1943 and 1967.

327.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if his Department or any semi-State body under the aegis of his Department own or lease property between the canals in Dublin city; and, if so, if he will indicate in respect of each property (1) the acreage, (2) the approximate location, (3) the date of purchase, if owned, and (4) the annual leasehold rent.

The particulars requested in respect of my Department are as follows:

The information sought in regard to my Department is not readily available and a disproportionate expenditure of public time and money which would not be warranted would be involved in compiling it. Moreover, it would be contrary to practice to disclose information regarding rents being paid for individual buildings.

Radio Telefís Éireann is the only semi-State body under the aegis of my Department. The information sought in regard to that body is a matter for the Radio Telefís Éireann authority and I have no function in the matter.

330.

asked the Minister for Transport if his Department or any semi-State body under the aegis of his Department own or lease property between the canals in Dublin city; and if so, if he will indicate in respect of each property (1) the acreage, (2) the approximate location, (3) the date of purchase, if owned, and (4) the annual leasehold rent.

My Department do not own or lease property between the canals in Dublin city. The ownership or leasing of property by State-sponsored bodies is a matter falling within the responsibility of each of the bodies concerned. The information requested by the Deputy in relation to these bodies is not available in my Department.

331.

asked the Minister for the Environment if his Department or any semi-State body under the aegis of his Department own or lease property between the canals in Dublin city; and, if so, if he will indicate in respect of each property (1) the acreage, (2) the approximate location, (3) the date of purchase, if owned, and (4) the annual leasehold rent.
