Written Answers. - Westmeath Water Schemes.

391.

asked the Minister for the Environment the present position regarding the Ballykieran/Athlone group water scheme County Westmeath.

The design for this scheme has been approved by my Department. A copy of the design has been forwarded to Westmeath County Council for examination and approval. The council's decision on the design is awaited.

392.

asked the Minister for the Environment when his Department will approve the Coolvuck / Glasson

Athlone group water scheme County Westmeath.

Westmeath County Council have recently forwarded the results of quality and quantity tests carried out on a public well in Coolvuck. The chemical and bacrteriological analyses confirm that the water is of a potable quality. The yield test however indicates that it would be suitable for domestic supply only to the 17 houses in the scheme, provided that each member installs an 80 gallon storage tank in his house and that no further connections are made to the scheme.

The group has been advised that if this is acceptable to them they could go ahead and get quotations for materials and labour and forward same to this Department upon the receipt of which an estimate will be prepared and grants allocated, if in order.
