Vol. 327 No. 12

Written Answers. - Telephone Service.

355.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone service will be provided for a person (details supplied) in County Dublin.

It had been expected that it would be possible to provide service for this applicant early in 1981. Because of the extent of the cabling work found to be necessary, however, when the matter was examined in greater detail, it is, regrettably, likely to be about a year's time before service can be provided.

356.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the position in regard to an application for a telephone service by a person (details supplied) in Dublin; and the position in regard to the provision of cable in the area.

Service for this and other applicants in the area is dependent on the provision of cable which, because of the volume of engineering work requiring attention at present, is unlikely to be provided for at least a year.

357.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware that telephone subscribers have to claim a rental rebate from his Department every time their telephone is out of order; and if he will institute arrangements whereby an automatic rebate will be granted when a telephone is out of order for periods longer than a week.

The normal practice is that where service is interrupted over a period, a rebate is granted on application by the subscriber. It would not be practicable under existing arrangements to provide satisfactorily for the automatic granting of rebates but the possibility of doing so will be borne in mind when the relevant records are converted to computer operation over the next few years.

358.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if, in view of the facts of a case (details supplied) in Dublin 7, he will arrange for the transfer of telephone service.

The telephone cable spare which became available on cessation of service in the house next door to this applicant is being allotted to an earlier applicant in the area. Service to the area generally is dependent on the provision of extra cabling which, because of the volume of engineering work on hands at present, is unlikely to be undertaken for at least a year,

359.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when the manual telephone exchange at Ballinure, Thurles, County Tipperary, will be automated.

Ballinure manual exchange will close when an automatic exchange is provided at Killenaule about the end of 1982. Ballinure subscribers will then be connected to Killenaule exchange.

360.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs, when a telephone will be installed for a person (details supplied) in County Donegal.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when an automatic telephone service will be provided in the Killybegs area of County Donegal.
