Vol. 328 No. 1

Written Answers. - Television Reception.

350.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he has made a decision to permit the reception of British television stations in Galway City; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As stated in a recent press release, I have decided to grant exclusive licences for a multi-channel television system in Cork City and in other areas such as Galway and Limerick where signals from BBC and ITV television stations are unreliable.

As a first step advertisements have been placed in the newspapers inviting parties interested in providing a multi-channel cable television system in Cork City to get in touch with my Department by 24 April 1981 with a view to being considered as applicants for an exclusive licence. A similar competition will be held for Galway within the next few weeks.
