Vol. 328 No. 1

Written Answers. - Home Improvement Grants.

396.

asked the Minister for the Environment the position in regard to an application for a home improvement grant by a person (details supplied) in Dublin; and when the grant will be forthcoming.

My Department were notified by the applicant last month that the work has been completed. The grant will be paid when an inspection confirms that the work qualifies for a grant and has been satisfactorily completed. An inspection will be carried out as soon as possible.

397.

asked the Minister for the Environment whether it is intended to reintroduce re-wiring and home improvement grants for old houses; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

There are no proposals in train at present to reintroduce grants for the categories of house renovation or improvement works referred to. The essential repairs grants scheme, under which State and local authority grants are available for the carrying out of essential repairs to conserve certain houses in county health districts, continues in operation. These houses are usually occupied by elderly persons.
