Vol. 328 No. 2

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

278.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason for the delay in dealing with the claim for unemployment benefit of a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

The records of my Department show that the person concerned does not satisfy the statutory contribution conditions and he is not accordingly entitled to unemployment benefit in respect of his recent claim. However, certain additional inquiries about his employment history are still in train and when these are completed his entitlement to unemployment benefit will be reviewed.

279.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare why a person (details supplied) in County Galway had his old age pension reduced.

The old age non-contributory pension of the person concerned was reduced following an increase in his British retirement pension.

282.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason for the delay in the payment of disability benefit to a person (details supplied) in county Waterford; and when payment will be made.

Minister for Social Welfare (Dr. Woods)

The person concerned claimed disability benefit from 11 February 1981 and all disability benefit and pay-related benefit due from 14 February 1981, fourth day of incapacity, to 10 March 1981 has been paid.

The delay in payment of benefit arose mainly from the fact that he did not submit the medical certificates to my Department until some days after he had received them from the certifier.
