Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

301.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason his Department have failed to make regular weekly payments to a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

Minister for Social Welfare (Dr. Woods)

The person concerned claimed disability benefit from 17 May 1980 and was paid from 21 May 1980, fourth day of incapacity at the maximum appropriate rate. Benefit issued regularly on receipt of medical evidence to 27 February 1981 when, due to an administrative error, payment ceased. The error has since been rectified and all disability benefit and pay-related benefit due has been paid to 20 March 1981. I regret any inconvenience caused to him in this matter.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason for the delay in the payment of disability benefit to a person (details supplied) in County Tipperary.

Minister for Social Welfare (Dr. Woods)

The person concerned claimed disability benefit from 23 February 1981 and has been paid from 26 February, fourth day of incapacity. All disability benefit and pay-related benefit due has issued to 24 March. The delay in payment is due to the fact that a first certificate only has been received. Payment was made on confirmation with his employers that he is still absent from work due to illness.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason for the delay in the payment of disability benefit to a person (details supplied) in County Waterford.

Minister for Social Welfare (Dr. Woods)

According to the records of my Department the person concerned last claimed disability benefit for the period 8 September 1980 to 5 January 1981. Payment issued from 11 September, fourth day of incapacity, at the maximum appropriate rate. All disability benefit and pay-related benefit due was paid to 5 January. He was certified fit to resume work after that date.

Despite a thorough search it has not been possible to trace a later claim to disability benefit from him. If he has been incapable of work subsequent to 6 January he should furnish to my Department certificates or a statement from his employers giving inclusive dates of absence from work due to illness. On receipt of same any disability benefit due will issue.

Minister for Social Welfare (Dr. Woods)

The person concerned claimed disability benefit from 2 March 1981 and has been paid from 5 March, fourth day of incapacity. Payment of all disability benefit and pay-related benefit due has issued to 24 March. Delay in payment was due to the fact that a first certificate only was received. Payment was authorised on confirmation by his employers that he had not resumed work after his illness.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason for the delay in the payment of disability benefit to a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny.

Minister for Social Welfare (Dr. Woods)

The person concerned claimed disability benefit from 2 March 1981 and has been paid from 5 March 1981, fourth day of incapacity, to 23 March 1981. His entitlement to pay-related benefit is being investigated and payment due, if any, will be made on completion of inquiries. The delay in payment was due mainly to the change-over from the system of insurance numbers to RSI numbers for the purpose of payment of benefit.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason for the delay in the payment of disability benefit to a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny.

Minister for Social Welfare (Dr. Woods)

The person concerned was in receipt of disability benefit from 1973 to 7 March 1981. He had earlier been referred for examination by a medical referee but in the event this examination did not take place. Due to an administrative error following this referral, payment was inadvertently stopped. The matter has since been rectified and all payment due to 11 April 1981 has been made.

310.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason for the delay in the payment of disability benefit to a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny.

Minister for Social Welfare (Dr. Woods)

The person concerned claimed disability benefit from 4 March 1981. Payment of all benefit due to 24 March, less refund of supplementary welfare allowance advanced, has been made. In view of the fact that only one medical certificate has been received from him there was no undue delay in the payment of benefit. He has no entitlement to pay-related benefit.
