Vol. 328 No. 3

Written Answers. - Examinations Dispute.

383.

asked the Minister for Education if, in view of the serious concern of the parents of students attending the Dublin Institute of Technology over the dispute on examinations which involves the Dublin Colleges Academic Staff Association, he will refer the dispute to the Labour Court; and, if not, why.

The Teachers' Union of Ireland is the recognised organisation to represent the teachers in the colleges in question. Claims by the TUI concerning pay and related matters on behalf of the teaching staff of these colleges are processed through the teachers' conciliation and arbitration scheme. In the circumstances the question of referring any claims on behalf of the teachers in these colleges to the Labour Court does not arise as it would not be in accordance with the terms of the teachers' conciliation and arbitration scheme to refer to the Labour Court matters appropriate for consideration inder the scheme.
