434.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware of the need for a public telephone in the area of Sandpits Cottages, Castleknock, County Dublin; and if a telephone kiosk will be provided there in the near future.

The use likely to be made of a telephone kiosk at that location would not be sufficient to warrant its provision and it is not proposed, therefore, to provide one there.

435.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the reason for the delay in providing a telephone for a person (details supplied) in Dublin; and when the telephone will be provided.

Within the next month or so. It was not possible to provide it earlier because of the volume of other work to be attended to.

436.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs how soon a telephone will be provided for a person (details supplied) in Dublin.

It is planned to provide service before the end of the year when the necessary cabling, which is substantial, can be carried out.

437.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the reason for the delay in meeting a claim in respect of the loss of a registered package which was addressed to a person (details supplied) in County Kerry.

The claim in question was initiated by the sender in the administration of origin, in this case the United Kingdom, which in accordance with normal postal practice is responsible for following up any question of compensation. Information sought of my Department by the British postal authorities was provided in February. The matter is, therefore, one to be followed up by the sender with the United Kingdom postal authorities.

448.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the Government Departments using private courier services.

The existing exchange is difficult to maintain and it is planned to replace it by a new one which is expected to be in service about the end of next year.
