Vol. 328 No. 3

Written Answers. - County Westmeath Speed Limits.

475.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he has received proposals from Westmeath County Council for the extension of speed limits in the Collinstown. Castlepollard and Delvin areas of County Westmeath; if so, when; the nature of the proposals made; and when he will approve them.

Proposals for the revision of speed limits were received in my Department from Westmeath County Council on 28 October 1980. They include recommendations that a speed limit of 40 mph be introduced at Collinstown and that the existing 30 mph speed limit area at Delvin be extended. They do not contain any proposal for the alteration of the speed limit area at Castlepollard.

The necessary documentation was not submitted by the county council to enable revised speed limit regulations to be made. My Department have been in communication with the county council on this matter and when the essential information is made available appropriate regulations will be drafted.
