Vol. 328 No. 4

Written Answers. - Use of County Donegal Plot.

129.

asked the Minister for Finance the use being made of the plot of ground of approximately 1½ acres which is owned by the Office of Public Works at Burnfoot, County Donegal, and which is adjacent to the Garda station; the income from the plot each year since it came into the ownership of the Office of Public Works; whether it was advertised for letting in any of those years; if so, the manner of advertising and the dates; if it is to be advertised for letting this year; and, if not, the use it is proposed to make of it.

The plot of ground measuring about 1 acre 1 rood attached to Burnfoot Garda station has been let almost continuously for grazing and tillage since it came into the ownership of the State in 1938. It is the practice not to disclose rent amounts.

The plot of ground was advertised for grazing on the following dates:— January 1938, November 1940, November 1952, December 1959, March 1961, February 1968. Advertising was by means of posters exhibited at the Garda station and post office at Burnfoot, and at the Custom and Excise post and post office at Bridgend. Persons who had expressed interest were notified by letter.

It is proposed not to advertise the letting this year as it is intended to build on part of the site.
