Vol. 328 No. 4

Written Answers. - Telephone Service.

287.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the reason for the delay in the installation of a telephone for a person (details supplied) in Cork south-west in view of the fact that the applicant permitted cable to be laid across his land free of charge on the basis that his telephone application would be given priority; and when the telephone will be installed.

It is expected that service will be provided within the next three months. Because of the volume of other engineering work requiring attention in the area it was not possible to arrange service earlier.

291.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware of the need to provide additional telephone lines between Letterkenny telephone exchange and Milford where subscribers find it almost impossible to make a telephone call to a number which is controlled by Letterkenny exchange; if he is further aware of the difficulties being experienced by telephonists who find it increasingly unpleasant to operate a system which is clearly inadequate; and if he will indicate when extra lines will be provided and when the Milford area will have an automatic service.

I am aware of the need to provide extra circuits. It is planned to provide automatic service at Milford within the next three months and the number of circuits between Milford and Letterkenny will be increased at the same time to the extent necessary to meet traffic needs in the area.
