Vol. 328 No. 5

Night Work (Bakeries) (Amendment) Bill, 1981 [Seanad]: Fifth Stage.

I move: "That the Bill do now pass."

I wish to raise again the question of a limitation on the number of weeks which workers may be required to work in any one year. Perhaps between now and the Bill's being sent back to the Seanad the Minister would consider making provision for a maximum number of nights which may be worked in a year. In the United Kingdom the limit is set at 26 weeks or 130 nights. I had made this suggestion in the original list of amendments which was lost somewhere between the ushers and the General Office. It was not in the second list of amendments because it was overlooked.

Question put and agreed to.

Was this Bill initiated in the Seanad?

Under the Constitution when a Bill comes to this House from the Seanad and is amended it is regarded as being initiated in this House.
