Vol. 328 No. 5

Written Answers. - Telephone Service.

283.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when the telephone of a person (details supplied) in County Dublin, which has been out of order for over two weeks, will be repaired.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if further to Parliamentary Question No. 8 on Thursday 12 March 1981 he will outline the technical problem that is impeding the installation of a telephone for a person (details supplied) in County Dublin; and if he will confirm that the number that the applicant has received is in fact the final number.

Due to a misunderstanding, the cable pair it was proposed to allocate to this applicant was not, in fact, spare, having been already in use for another subscriber. Alternative arrangements have had to be made to enable service to be provided and it is expected these will be completed within a month or so. The telephone number already quoted will be the one allotted.

285.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will give priority to the allocation of a telephone to a contractor (details supplied) in County Meath who employs three people and who has been waiting for a telephone for three-and-a-half years.

The applicant involved applied for telephone service on a residence basis and priority treatment over other applicants in the area is not regarded as warranted. Service will be provided as quickly as possible but it is likely to be up to a year before this can be done.

286.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when telephone service which has been disrupted for the past five months will be restored to a subscriber (details supplied) in County Dublin; and whether a refund of rental will be made or credit awarded for the period that the telephone has been out of order.

Service has been restored and ways in which the reliability of service could be improved are being examined. A rebate of rental is being allowed for the periods during which the subscriber was without service.

287.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs why an applicant (details supplied) in County Dublin has been waiting six years for a telephone; and how soon a telephone will be supplied.

Provisions of service for this applicant and others in the area has been delayed considerably by the need to replace cabling which was extensively damaged by a third party.

It is expected that the necessary work will not be completed until about the end of the year. Service will then be offered to this applicant and to other applicants in the area as local cabling becomes available.
