Vol. 328 No. 6

Written Answers. - Mayo Agricultural College Approval.

394.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he has given final approval for the setting up of an agricultural college at Ballinafad, County Mayo; the State funding for 1981; and the amount being allocated from the £8 million included in the £300 million package scheme for the expansion of agricultural colleges.

Final approval for the establishment of an agricultural college at Ballinafad is a matter for ACOT. I am considering a request from ACOT for the provision of additional funds to enable it to provide grant aid to Ballinafad this year on the same basis as other privately-owned agricultural colleges.

The provision of aid from the western package is governed by the terms of Council Regulation (EEC) No. 1820/80 which provides for the expansion of existing agricultural colleges and not for the establishment of any new colleges.
