Vol. 328 No. 8

Written Answers. - Galway Company Closure.

362.

asked the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Tourism if he is aware of the closure of a company (details supplied) in Galway with the loss of 200 jobs; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware that at the request of the directors a provisional liquidator has been appointed by the High Court to the company in question.

I am also aware that, for a number of months past the company had been experiencing serious financial difficulties. Despite the efforts of the IDA and other State agencies to mount a rescue operation, it was not possible to achieve this.

The IDA will continue to do everything possible, in co-operation with the liquidator, to secure a take-over of the enterprise that would enable some, at least, of the workers to be re-employed on a sound basis.
