asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry if he will give figures in respect of landings of fish from the Irish fishing fleet at home and abroad for the most recent year for which figures are available; their estimated tonnage and value; the number of fishing vessels in the fleet; the average landings and value of fish landed per vessel; and the approximate apportionment of the value of landings to (a) vessels and equipment and (b) remuneration.

On the basis of the above figures the average annual landings per boat would work out at about 47 tonnes and the average value of fish landed per vessel per annum would amount to £11,500 approximately. These average figures give no indication of the quantity and value of landings by the full-time trawlers because of the large numbers of small and part-time boats in the fleet.
The information on the apportionment of the value of landings as between the vessel and the crew is not available. The apportionment of the value of the catch is a matter of agreement on each individual boat between the skipper and crew and can very considerably from vessel to vessel.
