Vol. 328 No. 8

Written Answers. - Westmeath Water Schemes.

411.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he has received from Westmeath County Council (a) the design of the north Westmeath group water scheme; (b) the contract documents for the headworks at Castlepollard for the group scheme; and (c) the contract documents for the regional drain to serve the group from the headworks to Delvin; and when he expects to be in a position to agree to them so that work can commence.

My Department have not received the revised design for the north Westmeath group water scheme from Westmeath County Council.

Contract documents for the proposed Castlepollard regional water scheme were received on 12 March 1981 and are under consideration in my Department. The scheme will consist of headworks at Castlepollard and a trunk watermain to Delvin. I presume the third part of the question relates to this trunk main. The contract documents for the scheme must be considered in the context of the overall capital resources available for the sanitary services programme and the number of fully approved schemes in progress or getting to construction, including the following schemes in County Westmeath recently approved by me: — Gaybrook reservoir, Mullingar; Taughmon water supply scheme.

I am not at present in a position to indicate when a decision on the contract documents for the proposed Castlepollard regional water scheme will be conveyed to Westmeath County Council.
