Vol. 328 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Irish Trust Bank.

16.

asked the Minister for Finance (a) whether he intends paying any public moneys during 1981 in respect of the failure of the Irish Trust Bank and (b) the total paid to date.

A provision of £6,000 has been made under Subhead E of the Vote for Miscellaneous Expenses in the current year to cover claims by depositors in Irish Trust Bank Limited.

The total amount paid to date from the Exchequer in respect of the recoupment of depositors with that bank is £1,843,611.

I did not hear the reply to the first part of the question.

I said that the provision of £6,000 has been made under Subhead E.

Why are the Government giving money to foreign millionaires and they will not give it to Irish workers who lost their money in Bray Travel? The Minister can bray a lot but he does not appear to be ready to answer the question.
