Vol. 328 No. 8

Written Answers. - Meath New Schools.

78.

asked the Minister for Education when the outline sketch scheme for the new vocational school at Navan, County Meath was received from Meath VEC; the action taken thereon by his Department; and when he expects that work on the school will commence and be completed.

The original outline sketch scheme for the proposed new school at Navan was received from the County Meath Vocational Education Committee on 27 September 1979. Revisions to the scheme were necessary. An acceptable outline sketch scheme, incorporating those revisions, was received on 14 February 1980. Since then the further planning of the project has progressed through the developed sketch scheme stage, to the working drawings stage. The specifications for the mechanical and electrical services together with revised cost proposals were received in my Department on 9 February and 13 March 1981. These have been examined and found to be in order. Accordingly approval for the preparation of the bill of quantities and contract documents was conveyed to the County Meath Vocational Education Committee on 30 March 1981.

It is not possible, at this stage, to state when building work may commence.

asked the Minister for Education when work on the new second-level school at Kells, County Meath, proposed in March 1977, will commence; when the matters of the deed of trust and the local contribution were settled; the matters, if any, which now remain to be settled before work commences; and when work will commence and be completed.

Agreement has not yet been reached on the amount of the local contribution payable in connection with the establishment of a community school in Kells, County Meath. It is now anticipated that a decision may be made in relation to this outstanding issue in the very near future.

It is not possible to state at this stage when building work on the school premises may commence. The project will proceed with all possible speed.
