Vol. 328 No. 9

Written Answers. - Dublin School Recreational Facilities.

337.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware that the St. Vincent de Paul girls' school, Griffith Avenue, Dublin 9, who have some 900 pupils on their roll, have no school hall or general purpose area, and are at present obliged to use the only recreational areas within the school for cloakrooms, which are in fact needed for other purposes; and if he will provide the necessary resources to the school.

338.

asked the Minister for Education whether he intends to approve and, if so, how soon the general purpose area or hall to be provided at St. Vincent de Paul girls' school, Griffith Avenue, Dublin 9, for which application was made in October 1979, when it is expected that such a hall or area will be provided; and if he will meet a deputation from parents who are concerned about a number of issues affecting the future of their children in this school.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 337 and 338 together.

My Department have agreed, in principle, to the provision of a general purposes room to serve St. Vincent de Paul girls' and infants' schools, Griffith Avenue, Dublin 9. The Commissioners of Public Works have been asked for a report on the feasibility of providing this accommodation and their report is awaited. When the report is received, it will be considered without delay. It is not possible to state at this stage when building work may commence but I assure the Deputy that the case will be expedited as much as possible.
