Vol. 328 No. 9

Written Answers. - Treatment of Itinerant Children.

357.

asked the Minister for Health if he will comment on the contents of a letter (details supplied) in relation to a difference in the treatment by health boards of children of a settled community and of itinerant children; if, in view of the contents of the letter, he is satisfied with the present arrangements; and, if not, the steps he proposes to take on the matter.

I have had inquiries made from the Eastern Health Board in this matter. The board states that there is no distinction in dealing with cases needing emergency attention as between children of travelling families and other children. All such reported cases are referred direct to the appropriate Director of Community Care without delay for necessary action.

I am satisfied in the light of the information furnished by the board that the arrangements obtaining are reasonably adequate.
