1. The term "public service pay and pensions" covers the pay and pensions of civil servants, industrial civil servants. Defence Forces, Garda, teachers and employees in the health area.
2. The information given above is derived from returns made by Departments in the course of each year. The total for the year 1980 may be subject to minor adjustment when the accounts are finalised.
3. Expenditure in any particular quarter is affected by, inter alia, the number of paydays and the payment of any non-recurring arrears of pay increases which fall due in the quarter.
