Vol. 328 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Use of Calculators.

16.

asked the Minister for Education if he will allow calculators to be used by students sitting for the Intermediate and Leaving Certificate Examinations to be held in summer 1981; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The schools have been informed, as in previous years, that the use of calculators will not be allowed at the Intermediate or Leaving Certificate Examinations in 1981.

The implications which the present widespread everyday use of calculators may carry for school syllabi and examinations in future years will be discussed further in due course with members of the syllabus committees in connection with the review of the syllabi in mathematics and other subjects.
