Vol. 328 No. 12

Written Answers. - Galway Port Development.

290.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry is he is aware of the application by Galway Harbour Commissioners to his Department for an area of 38 acres and that the development of the port is being curtailed because of the reluctance of his Department to take a decision on the area of ground in question; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As I stated in this House on 5 February 1981 in reply to a previous question by the Deputy, the future use of the land at Lough Atalia which was acquired for fishery harbour development is being considered in consultation with other Government Departments and the request of Galway Harbour Commissioners for part of the land will be considered if it should be decided to sell the property.

There is no reluctance on the part of my Department in making a decision which has to be reached in accordance with normal procedures. I am not aware that the development of Galway port is being curtailed as suggested.
