Vol. 328 No. 13

Written Answers. - Computer Science Course Graduates.

281.

asked the Minister for Labour the number of the 84 diploma graduates identified in Parliamentary Question No. 331 of 5 May, 1981 who are now in employment in Ireland.

The diploma course in systems analysis at UCG was a part-time course available to people already in employment. These students were not eligible for the maintenance allowance grant administered by my Department. Consequently information on their present employment is not available to me.

As regards the other courses, the following table which was prepared from approaches to the students and colleges during the period January to April sets out the position.

Computer Science Courses.

I should add that it is probable that there has been a reduction in the numbers unemployed since the date on which the information was obtained.

Finally, I should say that the National Manpower Service, aware of the need to inform Irish employers of the output from these courses in 1980, issued an information booklet for Irish employers on the nature of the courses. A similar booklet has been issued this year in respect of the 1980-81 courses.
