Vol. 328 No. 17

Written Answers. - International Airport Project.

64.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the position adopted by the Government in relation to the proposals for EEC financing of the international airport project in Grenada.

65.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if any representations have been received from the US Government in connection with the financing by the EEC of the Grenada airport project; and, if so, the nature of these representations.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to answer Questions Nos. 64 and 65 together.

I understand that a proposal has been made for international co-financing of an international airport in Grenada. However, no proposal for Community participation has as yet been submitted to member states for their opinion, nor have we received any approaches in the matter.

If a project proposal is eventually submitted for Community financing, Ireland will examine it on its merits, taking into account such aspects as its regional character, developmental potential, and financial and economic viability.
