Vol. 328 No. 17

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Blackrock (County Dublin) Road Development.

2.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will state in respect of the Blackrock by-pass stage 11 road development, whether he has yet received from the Corporation of Dún Laoghaire the outstanding data required by his Department to enable a decision to be taken concerning the allocation of funds towards this work; if he is aware that it was indicated at a meeting between the Blackrock Business Association and the Minister of State at his Department which was held on 4 February 1981 that his Department expected to have this information by the end of February at the latest; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am awaiting the results of the analysis of road traffic counts carried out by Dun Laoghaire Corporation in respect of Blackrock by-pass stage II. When this data is received, there will be no delay on my part in considering it.

Is the Minister aware that the assistant city and county manager has assured public representatives that the traffic count data will be with the Department within the next two weeks? On that assumption, is there any reasonable expectation that early sanction will be given to the work?

Once the data is received I can assure the Deputy there will be no delay.

Is there any prospect of an allocation of funds this year in the roads capital programme for the commencement of such work?

No. It is not a marginal constituency.

If the work is ready to commence it will be considered. I can assure the Deputy that the work will not be held up for want of funds.

The need for funds will not hold up the work.

We cannot have a chat across the House.

Will there be any prospect of some money being made available, for example, towards the completion of the necessary CPO work in the area? A small amount would enable that work to proceed.

Whatever money is needed in connection with compulsory acquisition will be made available.

The soft answer.
